B. Ian Hutchins, Ph.D., Assistant Professor

Ian is an Assistant Professor of Data and Information Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the Information School. He uses quantitative analysis of information networks to find ways to improve the research enterprise and accelerate biomedical research advances. He previously worked as a data scientist at NIH, where he developed the iCite bibliometrics dashboard, along with many of its quantitative metrics and the underlying NIH Open Citation Collection database. Ian also spearheaded the development of the NIH COVID-19 Portfolio to track and disseminate cutting-edge COVID-19 research in real time. Ian is a returning Badger—his PhD in Neuroscience is from UW-Madison.
